Toni,
I just found a record of Thomas Abel Criswell applying for a pension as a confederate war veteran in Gibson county where he settled. It was on the Gibson Co. web site. I did not know if he was a veteran or not but he apparently was in the 24th infantry and would probably have signed up in Williamson Co.

Also, I have the date for the Texas trip as 1873, and the dates for my great grandmother, Mettye Criswell Puryear death as b. October 31, 1877 and d. July 31, 1970.

thanks for the information
Ken
