Not much to go on here with just initials.
The only plausible match I have within Alabama records is a James Christman, b. 1846 or 1847, residing in 1850 [Census roll 5, p. 327] in DeKalb Co., AL, a son of James Christman, mechanic 35 PA, and wife whose name I can't make out, 25 PA.

I don't see any other possible match among 1850 census records in AL. I have nothing to indicate one way or the other whether this is or isn't your JP Chrisman -- just a clue.
