1900 Census, Cerro Gordo, Piatt, Illinois, Enumeration District: 127, p. 7B (name, relation, birth, martial condition, BP, father's BP, mother's BP) Cripe, James, head, Oct 1863, Widowed, Illinois, Indiana, Indiana, farmer ----, Ruth, daughter, May 1888, Kansas, Illinois, Indiana ----, Omer, son, Apr 1891, Kansas, Illinois, Indiana (It is spelled "OMER", not Omar, in the census. I'm not correcting you. I'm pointing out I typed much more carefully than I normally do on this one. That gives you another name to search for. As you progress, sooner or later you'll run into a "Cripes", too. My grandfather Wilken spent half his life telling people "EN, no 's' at the end", and he got recorded as "Wilkins" half the time anyway.) http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/GenealogyMWeb/MarriageSearchServlet has CRIPE, JAMES m. FRANTZ, LIZZIE 03/27/1887 PIATT CRIPE, JAMES W m. OVERLY, NETTIE 02/05/1893 PIATT James W may be a cousin, named after the same grandfather. Since children out of wedlock was rare then, and Ruth was born in 1888, I'd bet James' late wife was Lizzie Frantz. http://www.familysearch.org/ has James and Lizzie, but they have James b. 1863 and dying 1980. That may be a wild error, or he might have died 1908 and someone switched the last two digits. There are two people on the PRF who have him; th elink above will give you their addresses at the time they sent in the data. 6 people on RWWC http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi have James and Lizzie, but they all copied the AF and none of them have notes pointing out their suspicions. You'd do them all a favor if you'd write to them. Notify Administrator about this message?
