I am a volunteer researcher for the Juniata Co.PA Hisotircal Society and have been working on a project concerning the people who emigrated from this county in the 1800's.John and Mary Diehl Stong emigrated to Tippecanoe Twp. Carroll Co.IN about 1876 with their family, including Laura Alice. In 1894 John and his brother George and their families moved to North Dakota. At this time, The Great Northern RR was interested in getting people to move to North Dakota to homestead or just to settle there. The Stongs were members of the German Baptistor Dunker or Brethren Church and a number of families went to ND from Indiana.I don't know whether or not Wm. Cripe's parentsJohn and Mary Cripe went to ND.Do you?At any rate, their were several settlements in ND made of primarily of these folks....Zion in Towner Co. and Newville in Ramsey Co. The towns have become wheat fields now and the cemetery, Salem Cem. at the site of Newville is overgrown and many stones have dis-
appeared.
From census records I have found that Laura and Wm. were in Eau Claire Co.WI in 1900.They were married in 1899 but I don't know where...probably in ND.They were in Ramsey Co. ND in 1910 and in Chippewa Co. WI in 1920.That is where there was another Brethern settlement- at Stanley,WI
Then they moved to MO. but I haven't been able to find out when so I hope you can add to the story. Some of the information I have comes from a History of the Stang/Stong Family in America. Ms Bobo who is the author lists Osceola, MO Church of the brethren Cemetery as the burial site for both Wm. and Laura.
I hope you can fill in some of the missing parts and if I can give you any information I'll be glad to do so.
