Hi Aloysius!I have subsequently "nailed" my Cremins - see a later post dated 11 December 2000.
Yes, i have always understood that the Cremins are a branch of the McCarthys - I understand Irish surnames tended to originate with a paricular individual whose first name became the new clan name.
Anyway, I have now established that my Cremins came from the townland of Gortnagaun (aka Gortnagane), which is in the parish of Rathmore - about an hour -or maybe a bit less - east of Killarney on the N72 highway.Therefore, it is very close to the Cork border.I'm not sure where Knocknagoshel is.
