My 2x Gt Grandfather, Stephen Kennedy, was also a 17th Lancer at Balaclava. Suggest you try contacting Captain Holtby at the Queen's Royal Lancer's Regimental Museum
hhqandmuseumqrl@ukonline.co.uk. There is a book called Honour the Light Brigade by Lummis & Wynn (of which the museum has a copy)that lists those who rode in the charge. Captain Holtby was able to verify information which until then had only been a family myth
Also you might want to e-mail the Crimean War Society's North American Agent, Lawrence Crider - his details (and info on my ancestor)appear on this message board.
Hope this helps,
Mark Hawes,
Hertfordshire, UK.
