Thanks for replying lawrence. Going by the uniform in the picture of James l have a copy of l've ruled out 11th Hussars and 17th Lancers. I've checked on the 4th and 13th Light Dragoons; the jacket doesn't match those worn by these regiments. The 8th Hussars plastron is not that narrow. What I think now is that James did not serve with any of the regiments of the Light Brigade. But may have transferred into one just before they left for the Crimea. Interestingly last night l came across the 28th North Gloucestershire Regiment. Gloucestershire is where my James Williams was born. l did see a Major James Willims name noted next to a bit of memorabilia but could not trace him any further from that site. It mentions the following;- "Equipment: Cross belt plate, gilt with silver mounts. Worn by Major James Williams of the 28th North Gloucestershire Regiment, 1832-1855. Badge: Shako plate 'Albert' pattern. Worn by Major James Williams of the 28th North Gloucestershire Regiment, 1844-1855" Another site l found an Ensign J Williams being a part of the "The Officers of the 28th Foot". Again just a name and nothing further to go on. The Major Williams l have ruled out but cannot find anymore on the Ensign J Williams. Any further help here would be appreciated. Thanking you.
