Dear Virginia:
The only person I know who has a list of everyone who served in the Crimean War has seemingly dropped off the earth (does not answer mail or e-mail). I doubt that a visit to the National Archives would be very productive if you do not know what unit he served in . . . as the official returns indicate that 111,313 men served at one time in the Crimea you are looking for a needle in a haystack. Maybe some genealogical work will turn up reference to a unit or place of enlistment. As a long (and time consuming) shot, you could purchase or borrow "The Casualty Roll for the Crimea" and look through all 239 pages for the name [if he was reported as wounded or killed] or you could get the CD "Crimean War Medal Roll 1854-55" which has photocopies (some illegible) of most of the handwritten medal rolls for the Crimea . . . but there are 6982 pages to look through. Please let me know if someone comes up with a better solution [which is very likely].
