Service history of a Joseph Dudley

I would appreciate any assistance or guidence on tracking down any information on the service history (if any exists) of my GGG Grandfather Joseph Dudley from Leicester, England who had apparently served in the Crimean War as a blacksmith.

Our family has passed down to each generation a Ceremonial Sword with what looks like Russian writing on it. Joseph Dudley, as the family history goes, took the sword off a dead Russian Officer during his time at the war.

I would love to know more about this part of his life.
