Forgot to mention, he served in the 11th Hussars. You might also want to read "The Destruction of Lord Raglan" by Christopher Hibbert. It is an older book, but used copies are available on the internet and it gives a good and interesting account of the Crimean War. It will help you appreciate the courage of all those who fought, and not just the ones who fought in the major battles.

Also, there were only four Pearces who served in the Light Brigade during the war, and only one was named George.
