The original name was TURCHINOFF not Turchininoff.

TURCINOV was also convicted for allowing his troops to pillage a southern town and discharged from the Army. But he was later reinstated.

Vasil = Basil

The vitch ending means son of.

The only TURCINOVs that I know today are Croatians! And have been for many centuries. The OV ending in Slavic surnames is a diminutive and means son of.
