I've never been able to prove my 3-gts-grandfather Benjamin GRIDER's parentage (but I'm still trying). I strongly suspect he was a member of the Burke Co., NC GRIDER family that included these siblings (data mainly from Revolutionary Soldier or widow pension applications): Martin GRIDER b. 1750 Pennsylvania d. aft. 1832 when in Cumberland Co., KY John GRIDER b. 1755 Maryland d. 30 Oct 1838 Henderson Co., TN; m. Isabel BLAIR 1781 Burke Co., NC (she b. 13 Dec 1761, d. after 1853) Rachel GRIDER b. 1757 d. aft. 1832 when in Cumberland Co., KY; m. _____ SMITH Jacob GRIDER b. 7 July 1760 Loudoun Co., VA; d. 6 Mar 1840 Burke Co., NC; m. Elizabeth RIPATOE 13 Apr 1789 Burke Co., NC (at William RIPATOE's) (she b. ca 1772, d. after 1855) Valentine GRIDER b. 1762 Loudoun Co., VA d. 2 Mar 1837 Cumberland Co., KY; m. Mary FUGATE 4 Feb 1816 Lee Co., VA Cornelius GRIDER [only info comes from Valentine's pension application] Can't help wondering if CRIDER and GRIDER might not be the same name, ultimately (from a German origin, perhaps), and that you might have some connection to Valentine GRIDER, above. Please e-mail in addition to posting a follow-up, if you care to respond: ronhead@wsnet.com Best regards,
