I question whether the Charles Criddle who was enumerated in the 1880 U.S. census at Grove, Alleghany, New York and in the 1900 U.S. census at Nunda, Livingston, New York, was the son of William Criddle and Mary Follett.

The Charles Criddle in New York stated that he was age 29 in the 1880 census and that he was born in Apr 1850 in England in the 1900 census.

Charles Criddle, son of William Criddle and Mary Follett, was born 25 Apr 1845 and christened 6 May 1845 in West Buckland, Somerset, England. This Charles Criddle was enumerated in the 1851 (age 6)and the 1861 censuses at West Buckland (age 15). This Charles Criddle married Jane Megler (not sure about her surname) 26 Mar 1866 at West Buckland. He stated that he was age 22 and that his father was William Criddle.

It is more likely that the Charles Criddle in New York was Charles Criddle, born April 1850 in Taunton, Somerset, England, son of Robert Criddle and Harriett Thomas. This Charles Criddle was enumerated in the 1851 census at St. Mary Magdalene, Taunton (age 11 months), and the 1861 census at St. Mary Magdalene, Taunton (age 12). He does not appear in the 1871 British census.

Let me know if there is something I have overlooked.
