Did you find more information yet? I hope you are having success. Someone you might want to contact is Ann Crews Hance she has a home page at: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/h/a/n/Ann-C-Hance/index.html
Ann has alot of information on the CREWS family. I am a descendant of John Joseph Crews also, I fit in the line as follows:
John Joseph, Alexander, Micajah, Bryant, Walter B. "Britt", Andrew Bryant, Walter Britton, Belinda.
Also on my mother's side it goes: Micajah, Hampton J., H.H. "Hardy", Walter Raliegh, Martha, Belinda.
Micajah and above are my double grandfathers.
My parents were both CREWS' when married.
Good luck with your hunting.
Belinda
