Vicky, what are you trying to tell me? I know your Milly Crews is a daughter of Capt. David Crews of Madison Co., Ky.

Capt. David Crews (that middle name,"Milton" was created about 10 years ago without any proof whatsoever.) is not my ancestor. Capt. David Crews'parents were David Crews Sr. and his first wife, Mary Stanley.

I descend from Redman Crews Sr. through his son, David Morton Crews Sr., born on 18 Dec 1789 (Bible Records) who married Betsy Smith in 1815 in Barren Co., Ky., da of Jeremiah Smith of Barren Co., Ky.
Redman Crews, born 1765 in Charlotte Co.,Va. was a son of John Crews Jr.(c1742-1799) and wife, Sarah Redman, da of William Redman Sr., surveyor and land owner of Charlotte County. Redman Crews fought under Col. Henry Lea in Lea's Legion, Va Continental Line, in South Carolina. Redman Crews returned to Virginia and lived in Halifax Co., Va. next door to his brother, David Crews, who moved to Patrick Co., Va. and died there in 1834. Redman married Sarah Morton, daughter of George Morton of Charlotte County, and they moved to Cumberland Co., Ky., by late 1789 where Redman Crews received Ky Military Land Grants on Marrowbone Creek for his services during the Rev. War. Redman Crews was injured during the war in SC, age 18, and was pensioned in 1832. He had two wives and he was a blacksmith by trade. I don't know the name of his 2nd wife. He had 14 children.

John Crews Sr. of Charlotte Co., Va., born c1720,(my line) lived about 30 miles east of your David Crews Sr.(1706-1766)(your line) who settled in Bedford Co.,Va. with his 2nd wife, Mary McGahea, widow of Samuel McGahea. Capt. David Crews married (1) Annie McGahea, his step sister, in 1761, Annie was a daughter of Samuel McGahea and wife, Mary., then he joined Col. William Byrd in 1763 and went with Col. Bryd to present Kingsport, Tenn. and built Fort Robinson (now Fort Patrick Henry), then Capt. David Crews moved to Boonesboro, Kentucky, and was a defender of Boonesboro in 1777, until he had a falling out with Daniel Boone, then Capt. David Crews built Crews Station in present Madison Co., Ky. and he later gave the land to form Madison County. After Annie died, Capt. David Crews married 2nd, Mildred Williford, who was 40 years younger than David. He built her a beautiful mansion house near Richmond, Ky.

Capt. David Crews' son John (m Lucy Hardwick in Bedford Co., Va.)was killed in the War of 1812, and there was a big lawsuit by Elijah Crews against his brothers and sisters, children of Capt. David Crews, for the land in Montgomery Co., Ky. The records can be ordered of this lawsuit which are 169 pages of depositions, etc.

Capt. David Crews was an honorable man, and so was my Redman Crews, who did not leave such an illustrious mark on Kentucky history
as Capt. David Crews.

One of my Redman Crews cousins wanted so badly to be from Capt. David Crews that she was obsessed with the idea so she wrote that our David Morton Crews' (son of Redman Crews) middle name was "Milton", and our
David M. Crews Sr. was a son of Jeremiah Crews, son of Capt. David Crews, and Jeremiah Crews named him after his father, Capt. David "Milton" Crews. (Saying it does not make it so! but it keeps getting repeated over and over.) We do not descend from Capt. David Crews whose middle name was not "Milton".

Best Wishes,
Elaine Rowland
