I'd certainly welcome your comment concerning the following data:

Note the items that argue for Catherine (Journey) being closely related to the Lunenburg Crews:
- The will of Catherine Journey was witnessed by Richard and Ann Crews, even though Catherine Journey lived in central Lunenburg Co, whereas the Crews were in northern Lunenburg Co. In otherwords, they were not next door neighbors, and it would have taken an effort to witness this will.
- Her inventory and appraisement was done by Richard Crews, Peter Crews, and James Hamlett. (As per the Crews website, Peter Crews is suspected of being related, by marriage, to the Hamlett family)
- her son John, in 1775, was a grantor of John Crews' half of the Crews brothers 1748 Lunenburg Co patent. But there was no public record of him having any claim to this land. In otherwords, John Journey seems to have had a non-public, family-based claim to the land.
- She was a Baptist.
- Catherine, a poor person, bought a book at the estate sale of Samuel Baker in 1753 in Lunenburg County (as did Sarah Pettypool). Because Catherine was a poor woman, this buying of a book seems very significant and strongly suggests to me that she was related to Samuel Baker. Also, like Catherine, Samuel's sons Leonard and Elijah were Baptist ministers (source: Virginia Baptist Ministers vol IV by William S. Simpson, Jr) at a time when Baptists were uncommon in Virginia. Samuel Baker is easily traced in VA like this: Westmoreland Co -> Richmond Co -> Orange Co -> Brunswick Co -> Lunenburg Co. Voila! I think we having Catherine's smoking gun! But - in that there was a Will Petepoole (Pettypool) who was a grand juror in Charles City Co, VA, in 1694, and in that the Journey and Pettypool families are multilinked, I would think that there is an a Charles City Co connection for the Journey, Pettypool, Baker, and Crews families that I have not yet been able to find.

My guess is that Catherine Journey was an older sister of Richard and John Crews.
