I am searching for the parents of John Crews, born about 1740/2 in Charlotte or Lunenburg Co.,Va. His father was either John or Richard Crews. John married Sarah Redmond/Redman, daughter of William Redmond of Charlotte Co.,Va.who died in 1791/2 and his children sued their brother, Benjamin, over the estate in 1792. John and Sarah Crews had a son, Redman Crews (1764-1833) who was a soldier in SC, injured and pensioned, Am.Rev.
Redman Crews lived in Halifax Co., Va. in 1787, next to his brother, David, (who died in 1834 in Patrick Co.,Va.) Redman Crews was a blacksmith and may have married first, Sarah Morton, daughter of George of Charlotte Co. Redman Crews owned land in Cumberland and Barren Cos.,Ky, some of which became Monroe Co.,Ky. His son, David Morton Crews, was born on 18 Dec 1789 in Kentucky, and married Betsy Smith in 1815 in Barren Co.,Ky.
In 1799 John Crews was living in Cumberland Co., Ky, but was not there in 1800.

In the 1820 and 1830 census records it appears that several Crews relatives were spending a short time near and with my Crews family as they migrated on to Indiana and Illinois. Some went on to Wayne Co.,Illinois,in 1816, and Redman's son, Benjamin(bc1818), moved to Pike Co.,Illinois, in 1850 with David Morton Crews' son, Redman Crews(b 1816) who married Winifred Landrum Ricketts.

John Crews, born c1720, and Richard Crews, born c1724, are in the first Tithe Lists of the Old Lunenburg Co. They may be brothers.
(Sunlight on the Southside, by Landon Bell, which covered the 11 present counties of Old Lunenburg Va.and the tithe lists that have survived.)
