Crews Family Genealogy Forum

Thanks for the contact. Melvina Crews had several brothers, and a sister or two. Samuel Francis Crews, her brother, married Melvina's sister-in-law, Harriett (Hattie) Benton, and they settled in Savannah. Another brother, Benjamin F. Crews, stayed in Tattnall County, Georgia, all his life as far as I have been able to document, borm, married, died there. The two youngest, Reuben and Ralph, born 1899, were twins as far as I can tell, and ended up in Tampa, Florida area, where there are other Crews and Benton relatives. There was a sister named Lorena whose married name was Pruitt, who resided in Florida, near Lake Okeechobee, most of her adult life as well. I think there were a couple others also but I do not have my Crews notes handy now, because I just moved. The parents of all these siblings were William Perry Crews, a Confederate soldier out of Tattnall County GA, and Sarah Wildes, daughter of James Christopher Wildes (who served in the same CSA unit as William Perry Crews). James C. Wildes and two or three of his brothers survived the last Indian massacre in Ware County, GA, and their parents and other siblings were murdered. None of the Wildes descendants I have come in contact with have been able to take the Wildes line any further back than James' father Max Wildes...no one really knows where he came from, only family lore(conflicting stories). Max's wife's line goes back a ways, on several lines. Back to the Crews line: I have never been able to find William Perry Crews' parents. I strongly suspect he is related to the Crews family from Ware County GA, and/or from Colleton County, SC, based on my knowledge of migratory patterns, the Scotch-Irish interdependent family relationships and naming patterns. I would be more than happy to exchange complete info with you. Please email me at jimpycook@yahoo.com so we can share more info.
