James CREWS of Turkey Island, Va; d. 1676. Hanged for participating in Bacon's Rebellion and was prob. one of the main instigators as he conspired to get Bacon involved as the leader of the rebellion.
I just posted some excerpts from "The Governor and the Rebel" which gives some data on James CREWS' particpation, on the CREWS Mailing List. You can probably read them in the archives at Rootsweb.com if your interested.
James CREWS was s/o Mathew/James CREWS. He lived in London. He also had other children:
1. Edward who was f/o Sarah WHITTINGHAM, executor of the estate of James CREWS.
2. Francis CREWS, f/o Mathew
3. possibly Thomas CREWS
4. possibly Hannah CREWS

We've heard theories that Hannah was dau of James, sister of James, sister-in-law of James, or friend of James because she was wife of Giles CARTER.

A good bet is that she was sister of James' wife, poss a Margaret
