Dorothy,

I've done quite a bit of research on the CREWS in Wayne Co., IL. The "best bet" I can find to be your James CREWS is:

James CREWS, son of Matthew CREWS and his first wife Mary BLAIR, b. 1 Jan 1827, d. 5 Oct 1854, b. Crews Cemetery, Massillon Twp, Wayne Co. IL. I do not have a spouse for him.

I also have an Esther VANDEVEER, b. ca. 1828, b. Indiana, for whom I have no spouse. I show her as a daughter of James VANDAVEER (1802-1890) and his wife Esther _____ (1803-1848).

See also my response to your post on the GILLISON Forum regarding William CREWS and Thurmutis GILLISON, who was a brother of the above James CREWS.
