Rosalie,

Thanks for posting!

Here are a few additional notes, comments, and/or questions:

4. To be clear, are you stating that the birth date should be 2 July or 20 July? His tombstone indicates the former.

4. It is indeed Sarah with an "h". That was a typo on my part. Her middle name also begins with a "J." according to her tombstone. "Jones" was provided to me by another researcher, but I don't have any other evidence. I will contact him about this matter. I do know that Sarah's sister married a "Jones". Perhaps this caused some confusion. You mentioned that Sketches refers to "Jane", but I don't see that reference. Can you cite the page?

4. I'm familiar with the "Watts" version, and cannot prove or disprove it conclusively. The Zebiah "Simms" case is circumstantial. First, there was a marriage bond issued in (then) neighboring Warren County, NC for a John Earl and Zebiah Simms. (Bond # 000160567). Next, this bond was issued at approximately the correct time period (21 Jan 1780). And last, John Earl and wife Zebiah had a child named "Sims". None of this is evidence enough, but it does at least raise the possibility that Zebiah's last name was Sim(m)s.

5. xi. Joseph A. Crews married Elizabeth Bryant.

5. xiii. Andrew W. Crews married Lillie King.

6. Benjamin Franklin Crews married (1) Fanny Ellis and (2) Hannah Britt Hunt. The name is cited in a deed: "Crews, Gideon to [his son] Benjamin F. Crews... a Negro slave named Jane about twenty years old..." (DOG-1847, p. 24, book 15)

10. I agree. Her name was probably either "Laura Sallie" or "Sallie Laura". I have a picture of her tombstone that clearly states "Sallie", but I don't think it's unusual for folks to have their middle name on their stone if that is what they were called.

13. I noticed the double "Whitfield", as well. James' great-grandmother was a Whitfield, which may explain his middle name. Perhaps his wife was a distant cousin. I'll need to look into this.

14. viii. My mistake. I was referring to "5. viii." (14 is his brother, who appeared at the top of my page, causing the confusion.)

One final question in regard to your original posting. For 7 (James A. Crews), you show David Hunt married to "Sophia Satterwhite". I have her as a second wife, with a "Charity High" as his first wife and the mother of his children (although this link has not been proven). Do you have any source data that can shed some light on this? One of these two ladies is most likely a direct ancestor of mine.

Finally, e-mail me privately with your mailing address and I'll try to put together and send you some information on the names that you are interested in. Or, if preferred, I can send you a GEDCOM.

Thanks again!

Dan
