Hi Christine, I read your comments about St.George near Bristol with great interest. My grandfather's name is Robert Herbert Crewe b 1891 d. 1952 , the 'e' might have been added by him. I have been told by family members he was born in St.George and that his family origianted from Crew's Hole. He joined the British Army and spent time in India and later in France during the First World War. Later he was part of the relief effort for the refugees from the Russian revolution. He was a chef in Lytham St. Annes where he lived until he died. Does any of this ring any bells? Unfortunately I have no solid information.
