According to Louis G. Creveling, who compiled the Creveling Genealogy, the pronunciation is "CREV-LING," the second vowel being silent. Based upon the mispellings I've encountered, especially in the census, this is probably correct. Since my Creveling ancestor died in 1855, I really have no independent knowledge, however.
