Hi Terry

The link is quite remote.

Oates Cretney married Margaret Unknown. Their son William Oates Cretney was born 1669 and he married Miss Anne Fail. Their son William born 1723 married Elinor Cubbon in Feb 1744. Their son James born 1760 married Miss Margaret Cottier. Their son Thomas born 1799 married Jane Kissack. Their son William born 1844 married Margaret Speedie. William and Margaret Speedie were my grtgrtgrandparents.

You need to go back to Oates and Margaret Unknown and I think your line comes back from their son John Cretney and Abigail Gell. If my research is right (and please shout if it is not!) they would be your 6x grtgrandparents.

Does this match any of your research?

Kind Regards
