I think your grandfather, Clifford Cress, may be my father's brother. If so, I have family history information I am willing to share with you. Please contact me off line at my email address and we can determine if we are talking about the same person.
My uncle, Clifford Cress, was born in KY. He married and had a family (4 children). Wife #1 died shortly after the birth of the last child. Clifford and wife #1 were living on his in-laws' farm at the time. He disappeared, leaving 3 of the children in care of their maternal grandparents.Youngest was adopted and raised by Clifford's sister, at wife #1's request. After he left, family never heard from Clifford again.
Children from marriage #1 searched for their father after they became adults.Found out where he had been living not long after Clifford had died. Located wife #2 and visited her once.
Does this sound like your family? Hope to hear from you.
