I'm fishing. I am a Custer by birth, but can't find a link so I've gone fishing.
I know we connect with James Cresap Custer but don't know exactly how. I'm interested in what you might have.
Question: Could you please explain how James and his family play into the Custer family...or are you looking for information on James (I have that if you need).
Answer: Haven't a clue except name similarity. I do know that Daniel Cresap lived in the area that the Custer family lived. b. 28 February 1727/28, Havre de Grace. m. Ruth Van Swearingen, 1755.
James Cresap Custer is a son of John Custer.
John Custer died 16 December 1830. "History of Cumberland, (MD)" by Loudermilk, William Harrison, Pg. 321. John Custer was found frozen to death on the Cresaptown Road.
Col. Thomas Cresap m. 30 April 1727, Baltimore Co., MD, Hannah Johnson.
From the time of the Indian town, Caiuctucuc, in 1728, up to the present day, embracing an account of Washington's first campaign, and battle of Fort Necessity, together with a history of Braddock's expedition. Baltimore, Regional Pub. Co., 1971.
John Custer's children carried surnames of Cresap, Washington, & Alexander. Is this coincidence of family ancestors?
Paul Custer d. Old Town, Worcestshire Twp., Montgomery Co., Allegany Co., MD. (Oldtown [Wincester] VA?)
Col. Thomas Cresap d. 31 January 1787? Oldtown, Allegany Co., Maryland. He m. Hannah Johnson, 30 April 1727, Baltimore Co., MD.
John Custer's son, Emanuel Henry Custer, named children with surnames, Johnson, Ward, Boston, Armstrong.
I thought it interesting that there was a James Cresap.
