Perusing the censuses, the only Cook in 1870 Geneva Co. was a William COOK, age 18, AL, working as a laborer for, of all people, William REGISTER! Amazing coincidence??? Dropping back to the 1860 census, a William C. D. COOK, age 8, born in AL, was in DeKalb Co. Could the C. D. be for Charles Daniel??? Considering the possible COOK marriage c1871(just months after the census), searching for "Sarah, Sarah J., or Jane, born c1854 AL, +/- 2" in 1870 Geneva Co. yields only these possibles(in order of "fit" with known info) - 1) Sarah J. WOODALL, 16, AL. Only negative was mother born in NC, but William Register of NC and William Cook were in household #185, Sarah J. was in #232 - 6 census pages apart. REGISTER families were also in #210 and #213, all in Township #1. Possible - a niece via William Register's sister marrying a WOODALL. 2) Jane REGISTER, 18, AL. Mother Nancy also born NC, household #465 in Township #2. The true plus for this fit is that "your" Jane would be with William REGISTER in 1880 as a COOK!!! Another amazing coincidence???? I would conjecture that Jane Register married William C. D. Cook, who kept working for William Register and William's niece(?) Jane "stayed on" after William Cook's departure. Certainly unproven but "fits together" nicely. Notify Administrator about this message?
