There was William Crays found in the 1810 census for Mercer County, Kentucky. He's not listed in the census index for 1820 but there was a William in Breckenridge County, Kentucky for 1820.

Would you have any reason to believe that this was the Crays family that you believe started in North Carolina and ended up in Indiana later?
