Lois,
I am just "getting into" genealogy and found your inquiry, dated Feb. 2000 regarding information on your orphaned great-grandmother and her brother, Harrison.
Harrison was my great-grandfather!My maiden name was Knapp.
Are you still researching the Knapp family? My quest is to find from which country our Knapp ancestor emigrated.
I see that a Mildred Hansen just this year answered your 2000 message and gave you quite a bit of information about Hulda Jane (I thought her middle name was Jenny) and Harrison's mother's family.Did you know that the mother's name was Mary (I believe Anne was her middle name)? As I understand it, two first cousins married so Mary Anne's maiden name was Knapp, also. She was born in Illinois.
She married her cousin, Lorenzo Kincaid. He was born in Pennsylvania in 1847.His father was Alfred--born in "York State", 4-1-1812, died in Iowa 3-23-1888.He married Susan (Susie) Hoover (born in "York State" abt 1815, died in Pennsylvania 6-18-1857) in Tioga Co., Pa. 10-20-1833. They had 8 children--Philenda (Felinda), Martilla (Martha), George, Edward R. (Rose), Lorenzo Kincaid, Alfred, John, Susanna (Susan J)--all born in Pennsylvania.
It appears that after Susan died, Alfred married Sarah E. who was from Pennsylvania and they had 3 children--Mary, Miles L. and Alonzo--with Mary born in Pennsylvania and Miles L. and Alonzo born in Iowa.
I don't know how Lorenzo and Mary Anne died, but as the records show, Harrison and sister Huldah lived with Grandmother Hulda until Grandmother either died or was unable to care for them and then they went to live with their mother's sister, Sylvia, in Fremont Township, Johnson County, Iowa.
Do you have any information on the parents of Alfred and Stephen Knapp?I'm hoping so. . .
Linda
