Pg. 966 One of the sons of ROBERT J. (son of EBENEZER and JENNET CRAWFORD), EBENEZER GRANT CRAWFORD, twice prothonotary of Venango Co., and afterwards successfully conducted a bank at Edenburg, amassed a competency and died at Franklin, June 16, 1897. The record of the CRAWFORDS in the late civil war is as follows: Of the sons of ROBERT J., of Richard Twp., JOHN, WILLIAM A. and SAMUEL G., who volunteered their services in defense of their country, JOHN was killed in the first battle of Bull Run. WILLIAM A. and SAMUEL G., returned at the close of the war. SAMUEL G. has since died at his home in Scrubgrass Twp., and WILLIAM A., resides at the old homestead. Four of the sons of JAMES CRAWFORD, of Six Points, Butler Co., were in the army. ROBERT M. was discharged on account of inability because of sickness because of sickness contracted in the service. JAMES H. died in Andersonville prison, and JOHN A. also was a prisoner with him at Andersonville, but was moved to the prison at Florence, North Carolina, died there. Also JOSEPH A. served his full term and was discharged at the close of the war. He is still living at the old homestead. These men were noted for their bravery and patriotism.
