I just now discovered the Crate Family Forum.Perhaps you already have the answer to your question.
Wanted to let you know that Crate is the Irish pronunciation of the German name Grett. The Charles you spoke of was a son of Philip Grett & Elizabeth Reisinger. Philip was a son of John Grett & Mary Elizabeth Seiffert (Cyphert). John's parents were Andrew & Magdalena Grett. Andrew was born in Germany, Dec. 26, 1720, and came to U.S. in 1749 aboard the ship, Phoenix, from Rotterdam to Philadelphia, PA.
