Isom Cranfill was one of 7 children of Thomas and Sarah Cranfill. Thomas was the son of Hezekiah Cranfill(or Crankfield or Cranfield). Hezekiah seems to be where the name changed to Cranfill. He went to North Carolina from Delaware in 1776 or 1777. Hezekiah was in Delaware at least by 1757 since he was in the French and Indian War. Hezekiah was probably not the first family member in the country but a provable connection to an earlier person is elusive. Isom left NC and went to Tenn. in 1828 and then to Illinois. An epidemic caused him to leave Illinois. and he went to Oregon at that time (1847). There is a lot of information in U. of Oregon Library on Isom.
