There is a Frank Crandall, age 17,in the 1900 census living in Chequest, Van Buren, Iowa with parents Clark and Alice J. (Year: 1900; Census Place: Chequest, Van Buren, Iowa; RollT623_462; Page: 3A; Enumeration District: 93.)
Clark Crandall was living in Van Buren in 1870 with his parents, Charles and Sarah. (Year: 1870; Census Place: Village, Van Buren, Iowa; RollM593_421; Page: 384A; Image: 771; Family History Library Film: 545920.)
In 1850 Charles was with his widowed mother, Maria, living in Ohio. (Year: 1850; Census Place: Van Buren, Van Buren, Iowa; RollM432_189; Page: 271B; Image: 59.)
If I have traced this correctly, Maria's husband was Russell Crandall, born in Hopkinton, RI on 27 Dec 1798. Maria's maiden name was Clark.(Crandall genealogy page 291)
The line back to Elder John goes as follows:
Russell, born in Hopkinton RI on 27 Dec 1798 to Russell and Merebah (Merebah) Babcock Crandall.
Russell Crandall, b. Westerly, RI in July 1772 m. Merebah Babcock, daughter of Elisha and Elizabeth (Perry) Babcock
Russell's parents were Elijah and Eunice (Braughton) Crandall. (Crandall genealogy, page 149)
Elijah Crandall was born 17 Jan 1746/47 (Crandall genealogy, page 58) in Westerly, RI to Joseph and Elizabeth (Crandall) Crandall. Elizabeth's parents were John and Mary (?) Crandall. Joseph's (this Joseph was born in Westerly, RI on 17 Jan 1716/17 - Crandall genealogy, page 25)) parents were Joseph and Ann (Langworthy) Crandall. Joseph who m. Ann Langworthy was b. in Westerly in about 1684 to Joseph and Deborah (Burdick) Crandall (Crandall genealogy, page 11). Joseph was the son of Elder John Crandall and his first wife. Deboarh was the daughter of Roberrt Burdick and Ruth (Hubbard) Burdick.(page 7-8, Crandall genealogy)
This info was taken from the census where indicated, ffrom the 1949 book Elder John Crandall and His Descendants by John Cortland Crandall and from info I have personally gathered in the local records as well as some of the Crandall Family Association Records. At this time, we really do not know the name of the first wife of Elder John. The Crandall genealogy calls her Mary Opp? but the CFA does not consider that to be correct for many reasons.
