As an update to my previous posting, I am now convinced that Peter and Mary (Richmond) Crandall moved out of the Little Compton and Tiverton areas of Rhode Island (although it was still Massachusetts back then) and moved into the area of Lebanon (New London County) and/or Mansfield (Windham County then, but now Tolland County), Connecticut in approximately 1728.The birth of their son Samuel is recorded in the town records for Lebanon, CT (as reported in Barbour's CT records)for 1729.The marriage of their daughter Bathsheba to William Southworth is recorded in Mansfield. Many other records concerning this family appear in Connecticut, and so I have found the evidence persuasive that Peter and Mary (Richmond) Crandall moved their young family from RI to CT.
Furthermore, there is evidence that Peter's brother John and wife Melissa also moved from Rhode Island to Connecticut. The birth of their son Constant is recorded in Mansfield in 1738.
As a result, this places Peter's and Mary's daughter Esther, b. 1724, in Connecticut, and I believe it is there that she married a man surnamed Lewis.
Does anyone have any evidence, in the form of deeds for land (selling in RI or buying in CT) or estate probate (wills, inventories, etc., presumably in CT) that place Peter and Mary in Connecticut in and after 1729?Please contact me directly to exchange further information.I am at [email protected].
