I am wondering if anyone is expert enough on the Cape May NJ Crandalls to help me out with this.

Here is a pair of names from the standard Crandall lists:

360. John CRANDALL (John , John , John , John , John ) was born 1768 in Lower Prince, Cape May Co., New Jersey. He died 20 Dec 1838 in Brooklyn, Pennsylvania.

John married Elizabeth on 4 Oct 1799 in Cape May Co., New Jersey. Elizabeth was born 6 Oct 1765 in Cape May Co., New Jersey. She died 1 Nov 1854 in Brooklyn, Pennsylvania.

They had the following children:

       628        M        i
       Elijah CRANDALL.

Listed elsewhere as 988. ELIJAH CRANDLE, of Roaring Branch, Pa., son of John

Here is a Crandel family originating in Cape May County and found in Indiana:

2. Margaret Wolf (Michael, 1). Born, circa 1785, in NJ (1850 Census).

Died, 27 Oct 1851, in Fayette, IN (Cem. Rec.). Burial in Fayette, IN. Census:

1850, in Jennings Twp., Fayette Co., IN.

She married Elihu Crandle, 22 Dec 1805, in Cape May, NJ (Crandall Gen.

Cape May Co., NJ Marriages, in custody of Houston Public Library). Born, circa

1783, in NJ (1860 Census 1850 Census). Died, 1862, in Fayette, IN. Extra 4:

1829, in Fayette Co., IN, 1820. Census: 1860, in Jennings Twp., Fayette Co.,

IN. Census: 1850, in Jennings Twp., Fayette Co., IN. Census: 1805, in Upper

Twp., Cape May Co., NJ. Occupation: Farmer. Children:

The name Elihu, which is common as a Crandall name, also comes up repeatedly as a Crandel name in Indiana in the next century.

See http://columbiagypsy.net/wolfkids.htm

There is no direct connection I can determine, but there is far too much coincidence here for this to be accidental. Does anyone know enough about the Cape May Crandall's in the 1700's to help me out here?
