I am looking for Martin Kramer/Cramer's origin in Germany, as well as info on his parents. MARTIN KRAMER [b. Germany about 1830] and his [probable] sisters Barbara b. 1819, Charlotte b. 1821-22, Catharina b. 1824, Gertrude b. 1832, and Elizabeth b. 1837, emigrated to NY from Le Havre France in 1849 [their country of origin listed as Bavaria]. At the 1850 census in NY City, it appears that the head of household was a Charlotte age 54; however sister Charlotte from the ship psgr list would have been approx age 28, it's possible this is she, the age is hard to read. [Later censuses show Martin's pob as Hesse Darmstadt.] The death certificate of one of the Kramer sisters showed her father's name as "John". No other verification of parents thus far. The Kramer siblings married as follows: Barbara - 1850 to Karl/Charles Adolph Meyer Catharina - 1851 - Heinrich Elbert *Charlotte - between 1848 - 1862 to Johan Heinrich W. Greve [perhaps married once before? No Greve children born before early 1860's] Margaretha - 1852 to Frederick Heinrich Wilhalm Christian Foeller [she died the next yr in childbirth] MARTIN - 1854 - Clara Rosina Barth Gertrude - 1858 - Gottlieb Seifert Elisabetha - 1859 - Johann Ferdinand Krieger MARTIN KRAMER married CLARA ROSINA BARTH in NY City, 1854. Their children were: Karl Edward b. 1855 d. 1856 Clara Lydia b. 1856, never married THEODORE MARTIN b. 1858, d. 1940 NY Edmund Walter b. 1860, d. 1864 Paul Gerhardt b. 1863, d. 1864 Caroline Emily b. 1865, m. by 1895 Stephen NANKE, she d. before 1900 probably Essex Co., NJ Edmund Paul b. 1867. d. betwn 1920-1930 probably Bergen NJ; married 1st [probably] Katherine Paige Hines [d. by 1900], married 2nd Helen about 1904. Children by 1st wife [b. NY]: Ruth, Florence, Walter [his son Walter Jr. supposedly a pianist]; by 2nd wife, had children [b. NJ] Ethel, Kenneth, Edgar, Doris and Herbert. Martin's surname was alternately spelled Kramer or Cramer in City directories and censuses over the years. MARTIN KRAMER and his daughter Clara moved to Essex Co., NJ with his dau. Caroline "Carrie" once she married Stephen NANKE. He and Clara still lived with widowed son-in-law NANKE as of 1900, but Martin cannot be located in the 1910 census, while his dau. Clara had moved back to NY City to live with her maternal aunt. Would like to locate Martin's death certificate [Essex Co., NJ?] to see if his parents are named. Martin's son THEODORE MARTIN KRAMER later spelled his surname CRAMER. He married ALICE MARIE MORRELL; they were my great-grandparents. Would like to make contact with anyone related to this family and/or with info to share. ...Kim Danielsen [rmagickd @ yahoo.com] Notify Administrator about this message?
