Dear Tana and Phillip,
We are distant cousins -- Staples Crafton's brother, Frederick, was my gggg-grandfather.A couple of clarifications that I hope are helpful:
1) Lunenburg court records are definite that Staples Crafton was the son of Richard Crafton and Sarah Staples, not James Crafton and Frances Staples. It's easy to confuse the two couples since Richard was the brother of the James and Sarah was the sister of Frances.
2) The grandparents of Staples Crafton listed are right: James and Keren-happuch Crafton on the one hand and Thompson and Judith Staples on the other.
3) Beyond his grandparents, the genealogy for Staples is pretty murky.According to Virginia records, Michael was a Grafton rather than a Crafton and I think that the Thomas and Mary Crafton listed is a reference to a couple that died without surviving children.
I know very little about Chesly and Ava Jane's children. Can you tell me more about them? Thanks!
Ray Crafton
