The Craddock you are referring to was Robert Craddock, b. abt 1742, d. in 1837, in Warren Co., KY. I have (somewhere) a copy of his will, and it is PAGES long, dealing with his slaves, and their freedom, and so forth. I believe (but am not completely sure) that he also made allowances for schooling, or maybe setting up a school, or something like that.

I don't know about their taking his name, but I believe that was a pretty common occurance, wasn't it?
