Melinda Craddock was the sister of Charity Craddock. The children of William and Rebecca Drain Craddock were John, James Madison, Jonathon Newman, Melinda, Charity, Lucinda, Rachel, Rebecca, William, Robert, and David. This list is from William's will of 1849. Rebecca remarried Samuel Morelock of Hawkins Co., TN. When Samuel died he left virtually his entire, and extensive, estate to Rebecca and her son, David.William Craddock was the son of David and Rachel Oatey (OTEY) Craddock who married in Nov. 1788. David died in 1793. Rachel died in 1802. Their children were William, John and Drusilla. Drusilla married Cornelius Smith, Jr. I do not know what happened to John. When Rachel died she had a very young daughter. From the date of her death and the date of court records concerning the children, Rachel may well have died as a result of the birth. I do not know the name of the father. Rebecca Drain was the daughter of Rebecca Drain, a widow. She remarried to John Newman and they had a son, Jonathan. Rebecca Drain Craddock had other Drain siblings, but I have misplaced their names. William and Rebecca Craddock lived until the early 1830's in Greene Co., TN and then moved to Washington Co. (they moved only about 5 miles). In the mid-1840's they sold their farm and moved back to Greene Co. In the 1850 Census Rebecca and her unmarried children(and two young Craddock children George and Mariah whose exact relationship is not known) lived next to her sister-in-law, Drusilla Smith. I have a lot more on the family and am willing to share, but I have not had the time to put it all in order. Maybe within the next month or two I will have it in order. Please correspond. Maybe you have one of those missing details that will complete some of the puzzles of this family.
