Some of your information matches what I have, however some of the dates & names are different. The information that I have on Murphy seems to indicate that his name was Murphy Chamberlain Crabtree. He had a son by his first wife, Rachael Smith (daughter of Armstrong Smith), named Murphy Jr. His full name was Murphy Chamberlain Crabtree, usually called Cham. Murphy (Sr)died in 1885 in Beaver Meadow, AL (now Gulfcrest, AL) from hepatitis. I believe that Alfred was an additional brother.
