My husband's family is from Durham, and they lived near there for many generations. He is a descendant of James Cozart who was married to Sarah Brinkley. He was a land owner and had slaves. I believe they are named in his will, but can't remember for sure. You may want to check James' will, which is noted below. There were also census records showing slaves from that period, so you could check those as well. Good luck in your search. He died in Orange County, but states that his land was in Person County.

JAMES COZART was born Abt. 1742 in Somerset Co. NJ, and died December 17, 1805 in Orange Co. NC. He married SARAH BRINKLEY August 23, 1786 in Orange Co. NC. She was born Bet. 1742 - 1748 in NC, and died Unknown.
