Origin of African American Cozarts (Oxford, Durham, NC)
I found this site by accident, and was intrigued. To be honest, I had no idea that there were Cozarts that were not African-American.(Every Cozart that I had seen or met was.)
This made me curious... I learned that the origin of the name is from France. How did it end up being so widespread here? Was that a product of slavery?
My grandfather was Robert Louis Stevenson Cozart (b.1915, d. 1958). I never met him (he died when my dad was a kid).I believe that my dad was born in Granville Co., NC., He was the son of Henry and Caroline Cozart, also born in Granville Co., NC.Does anybody know anything at all about this group of Cozarts?
Thanks
