I am a Cossart descendant thru my grmother who was a Cozatt from Wv. Her father was variously listed as Cozad or Cozatt on the census reports. His father was a Cassatt from Pa. Go figure! In 1940 my mother got a letter from a Cozart organization in Pa saying we were all descendants of Jacques and Lydia Cossart who came to this country from Holland in 1662. They came to New Amsterdam. At that time (1940) they had cataloged over 5000 descendants of Jacques and Lydia. Included in the various spellings of the original name were: Casad,Casart, Casat,Casatt, Cassad, Cassairt, and about forty others. Cozad is another. If anyone is interested in the whole list, let me know.
Judith
