Glad to see your posting, hope you will be able to clear up a mystery I have dealing with the marriage/s of said Cornelius Cozart. His line from French emigrate
1. Jacques Cossart Jr. m. Lea Villeman
2. Anthony Cossart Sr. m-1 Elizabeth T. Valentine.
3. Anthony Cossart Jr. m-1 Wilihelmina Hendrikson
4. Jacob Cossartm. Jemima Williams
5.Thomas Cozart m. Mary Goss
6. Jacob Cozart m. Nancy Johnston
7. Cornelius Cozart m. Elizabeth M. Moore, know he had a legal marriage in NC, left wife and child in NC, living or married another woman by 1880 Comancho Co. TX census.
We have information dealing with all the above generation found in the early works of Mary Tilley, Joseph A. Cossairt & my effort compiled a tabulated genealogy in 1991, all can be found in L.D.S. library. Also various web sites on the net dealing with the Cossart/Cozart family.
My question to you do you have a legal document that Cornelius was married to your Martha Mattie Carroll.
He will Elizabeth M. Moore had daughter Cora Cozart born 1864 Person Co. NC.
Two daughters living with his second wife? named Ella born 1876 TX & Rutha Cozart born 1878 TX.
Cornelius' siblings were: Marcia, Joshua, Minerva, Frances, Erasmus, said Cornelius, Rianna, Isabella & D. Cicero Cozart.
The late Mary Tilley had some information concerning his siblings. I have always thought she knew if he had divorced his first wife in NC or just deserted this family in NC; and did not want to speak of it.
Hope you can shed some light in this question. Would be very interested in see his marriage licence to said Martha M. Carroll.
Thank you for your help in this matter.
