Denis Coyne [1776-1850], parents unknown, was the port surveyor of Waterford and was later an actor/manager. At one time he lived at Birr, King’s County, where his famous son, Joseph Stirling Coyne, was born in 1803, but he died in London.
Denis, whose family seems to have come from Kilbeggan, County Westmeath, had a brother George, and possibly another brother Edward. Or he may have been George Edward Coyne. There is uncertainty here.
This George, dates unknown, had a son, Joseph [1801-1868], who spent some years in Mexico and then commanded one of the first steamers of the City of Dublin Steamship Company plying between Dublin and Liverpool. Joseph married [1833] Sarah Speakman [Spachman?] of St Helen’s and they had Harriet[1836-?], Edward Speakman[1834-? and George Valentine[1836-69]
George also had daughters Susanna[1804-67], Lydia[1806-?] and Anne[1806-51].
Susanna married the Rev. William Whitworth, my G.grandfather, in Runcorrn Parish Church in 1839.
Lydia married Fletcher
Anne married James Abbott. They had Susan[na] who was born in New Brunswick, Canada in 1830. James died and Anne and Susan came back. Susan married Richard Carlton born 1856 in Ireland. He was her nephew.
