Hi Wendy,
I'm also sure that the Coxalls are related. Haslingfield is a small village in Cambridgeshire - do you know it? I was sent info on the Coxalls back to the early 1600s by my husband's common ancestor in Australia (we linked through this forum). There are lots of Williams, almost every family had one!
My James born Dec 15 1831 was son of William born Oct 18 1795. This William married Alice Harpur Jan 25 1825. He was publican at the 'Little Rose', which tends to distinguish him from many of the others.
My husband's ancestor was Arthur (bJune 14 1876), the youngest of James sons. He married Rosetta Nelson and they also lived at the Little Rose pub, as seen on the 1881 census. I will contact the lady in Australia, as I'm sure she'll want to link with you too. Perhaps you'd like to leave a contact e-mail address? Do you have any more info on your ancestors?
You ask what a fossil digger is; I guess it's just that, someone who digs for fossils. Perhaps they sold them to the University or were part of research projects - I'm just guessing, but I don't suppose it was very well paid, unless they discovered something rare.
