Dr. John Wesley Cox Jr., Ph.D., 68, died June 22, 2009,
from natural causes in Asheville, NC.

He had resided in Johnson City, TN, with his wife Judy. He
was born July 18, 1940, in Memphis, TN, to John Wesley and
Carolyn Huntzicker Cox, who preceded him in death.

John was known by family and friends as Wesley.

He received his BS and MA from Wake Forest University and
his PhD from University of Cincinnati. Wesley was most
proud of attending Wake Forest on a full football
scholarship as a lineman.

He was married to his former wife, Nancy Secrest Cox, for
28 years, who preceded him in death.

Wesley was proud of his children, John and Audrey, becoming
doctors. He often thought of them as the Drs. Cox.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Cox, of Johnson City, TN;
his son, Dr. John Wesley Cox III; and granddaughters,
Lauren and Sarah, of Connelly Springs, NC; his daughter,
Dr. Major Audrey (Dexter) Jain, and grandsons, Parker,
Hector, and an unborn grandson of Louisville, KY; step-
daughter, Nicole (Alan) Shields and their daughters,
Isabella, Johanna and Elliot, of Johnson City, TN;
stepdaughter, Jennifer (Scott) Schwartz and their daughter,
Ruby, of San Francisco, CA; sister, Sherron (Ernie) Barker,
of Collierville, TN; and sister Judy (Alan) Knapp of
Pittsburgh, PA; nieces, Brenda Smith and her son, Alex, of
Collierville, TN, amd Jill (Dave) Baird and their daughters,
Alaina and Angela, of Apex, NC.

The viewing will be at Memphis Funeral Home Germantown
Parkway Chapel, 3700 N. Germantown Road, Bartlett, TN
38133 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., on Friday, June 26, 2009.

The funeral service will be Saturday, June 27, 2009, at 10
a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Teddy Steel officiating.

Interment will follow in Memory Hill Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, monetary donations will be accepted at
McGregor Baptist Church, 3750 Colonial Blvd, Fort Myers,
