Looking for the parents and siblings of JULIA COX.
Also looking for more information on the children and descendants of JULIA COX and DR CALVIN THAYER POMEROY. The US Census info is sketchy, contradictory, confusing!

I am a volunteer for the American Pomeroy Historic Genealogical Association (APHGA) www.americanpomeroys.org
We are updating Albert A Pomeroy's History and Genealogy of the Pomeroy Family pub 1912, 1922. (Descendants of Eltweed Pomeroy who came to America about 1630.) It is the source of the following information:

Information on the COX-POMEROY family:
1912, v 2 p 579:
DR. CALVIN THAYER POMEROY (Ebenezer,Ebenezer,Ebenezer,Eldad,Caleb,Eltweed)
b. Nov. 15, 1809, Otisco Hill, N.Y.; m. 1836 JULIA COX. He perished in the Marine City disaster on Lake Huron, Sept., 1880, while returning from Mackinaw. The steamer caught fire and burned to the water line. He leaped overboard with a grandson, (son of J. H. McElroy of Washington, D.C.), in his arms and tried to swim ashore, but both were drowned. The bodies were recovered together.

8th gen. Children:
JOHN POMEROY
LIEUTENANT GUY POMEROY, m. and lived at Ottawaw, Ohio. Military service in the Civil War, as 2d Lieut. of Co. D, 21st Ohio Vol. Inf., joining his company July 18, 1861; d. of wounds received in the battle of Scarey Hill, Va., 1861; buried in the Pomeroy cemetery at Pomeroy, Ohio.
ELIZA POMEROY, m. J. H. McElroy of Washington, D. C.
DORA POMEROY, m. B. F. Carey of Toldo, Ohio.

1850 US Census Ottawa, Putnam, Ohio (correct: POMEROY)
1860 US Census Ottawa, Putnam, Ohio (error: POMROY)
1870 US Census: record not found
1880 US Census: record not found

Ancestry.com has 2nd Lieutenant Guy Pomeroy in American Civil War Soldiers. Enlisted 26 April 1861, age 27, commissioned in on 1 May 1861, died from wounds 18 July, 1861.

Interesting mention on Guy Pomeroy online in The story of Pvt. Edward S. Godfrey and Company D, 21st O.V.I. at Scary Creek, WV.
The Putnam County (Ohio) Gazette, March 16, 1933.

We'll appreciate any help in learning more about this family. Thanks!
