Yes! This is the family. It appears that my Meady Cox does not belong to the other John Cox of Murray County that was atleast 50% Cherokee and left Murray County in 1838.

My John Cox's wife is, to my understanding, Elizabeth Monteith. They were married in Mecklenburg County, NC. Most all of the children were probably born in Lincoln County, NC. John and Elizabeth were neighbors to Peter Messiner in what is now Whitfied County, GA (formerly part of Murray County). Peter Messimer's daughter, Sarah, married my wife's ancestor, Meady Cox. I just recently acquired copies of a letter she sent to her father in Ga while she and Meady were living in Polk County, MO dated September 25th, 1865.

As you have mentioned, there is not much info on this John Cox out on the web. I'm sure not everyone with information about this family has weigh in on the Cox Message Board.

Can you explain to me why you think John's parents are Vincent and Lucy (Abernathy) Cox. Also do you have names of any of John's children or siblings.
