A biography/family history of Zeb T. Cox, Ranchman, of Birney, MT, is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, page 1108. Parents: Jack Cox, native of NC & one of the first settlers in TN. Mother: Miss Matthews, b. Georgia, died soon after the birth of Zeb T. Children: Jack P., Edwin J., Jess B. (Dyersburg, TN), Mrs. Mary Record (Paris, TX), Zeb T. (Birney, MT). There were nine living children. Zeb's boyhood was mostly spent in Pulaski, TN, and he was a student at Cumberland University in Lebanon, and took a business course at Nashville, TN. He became an accountant and in 1870 located to Brennan and Cleburne, TX. In 1886 he came to Montana to farm at the Cheyenne Indian Agency. On leaving the Indian service, he homesteaded at Hanging Woman Creek until 1913 when he engaged in merchandising at Birney, Rosebud County, MT. On 17 Oct 1887, Mississippi City, MS, Zeb married Miss Mary P. Roberts, b. 1865, daughter of Calvin Roberts. A short history of Mary's family is included in this bio.
